Here are 12 portraits of contemporary music composers. Contemporary music is a very general term which makes life easier when you want to talk about music written by composers of today. These composers are the grandchildren of the great composers like Bach, Beethoven or Mozart, but, naturally, their music doesn’t sound like that of their ancestors! You can listen to it in concert or on disk, sometimes on the radio, and almost never on television; that’s why they’re not very well known. The sound worlds that they invent offer journeys for the mind, moments of joy for the imagination, and surprises for the ears!
The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
