Maxime Corbeil-Perron is a Montréal-based artist whose practice unfolds in a multiplicity of mediums: audiovisual performance, experimental cinema, electroacoustic composition, improvisation, sound art and installation. His current works present an approach related to media archaeology, in which he seeks to establish relationships between obsolete media and contemporary technologies, in search of new aesthetic possibilities.
As a director, he received the best experimental animation award at the Ann Arbor Film Festival (USA, 2021), the prize for best experimental work at the Rendez-vous Québec cinéma (Canada, 2020), and the grand prize for best experimental work at Festival Tous courts (France, 2020). His work has also been recognized with the prize in the Sound Mutations category at the MUTE festival (Italy), special mentions from the Festival du Nouveau cinéma (Canada, 2019), the Aguilar Short Film Festival (Spain, 2019), and Videoformes (France, 2020).
As a composer, his work was awarded an honorific mention in digital music and sound art at Prix Ars Electronica (2021). His works were also highlighted and awarded the Italian Senate medal by the biennial composition competition Città di Udine (Italy, 2012, ’16). His work was also recognized by the Destellos Electroacoustic Composition Competition (2nd prize, 2012), and the Jeux de Temps / Times Play competition (1st prize, 2011). He has received commissions from Continuum Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble SuperMusique, Ensemble d’oscillateurs, Totem contemporain, and Quatuor Bozzini.
His work was featured in several international such as L.E.V. (Spain), Intonal (Sweden), Dresden Filmfest (Germany), Mutek (Canada), Ann Arbor Film Festival (USA), Videoex (Switzerland), Festival du Nouveau cinéma (Canada), Set Fest (Ireland), Videoformes (France), MUTE (Italy), FIAV (Morocco), Galerie M (Japan), Cairo International Film Festival (Egypt), and Seeing Sound (UK). His work was exhibited at Currents New Media (USA), Museo Reina-Sofia (Spain), and FIMAV (Canada), among others.
He was artist-in-residence at Elektronmusikstudion EMS Stockholm (2018), Signal Culture (2017, ’19), Société des arts technologiques (2019), and Vidéographe (2021).
His works are distributed by Vidéographe (Canada), Taukay Musicali (Italy), Hardcore Jewellery (UK), La bande vidéo (Canada), Kohlenstoff Records (Canada), Ambiances Magnétiques (Canada), and Mikroclimat (Canada). They have also been broadcast by a variety of international media, including ORF (Austria), and Radio-Canada.
He has also been involved as a collaborator in many projects, including Mutations, Political Ritual, Siamois Synthesis, Le pélican noir, Achrome, ORA, and Paysages primitifs. He also released electronic music under many pseudonyms, including M.edium, DRESDEN, and Le poisson d’argent.
He is a member of Perte de signal, Vidéographe, Main Film, CEC, and CLC.
He holds a doctorate in composition and sonic arts from the Université de Montréal.
