Composer, sound designer, and computer-music programmer, Jean-Michel Dumas is interested in the “détournement” (or total transformation) of sonic objects in the noise esthetic and in generative music. His works are principally composed for live music and theatre performances. Improvisation plays an important role in his work, and since 2009 he is the director of the free music collective Magasin. Outside of the academic musical world, he is the founder of Ajax Sound Studio and perpetuates the evolution of the rock scene by plugging his electric bass into a fuzz pedal and then into a huge amplifier. He has been on the verge of completing a Master of Composition degree at the University of Montréal for the past 10 years.
