Fujii family’s passion for Japanese marimba music has led them to tour internationally for the past 15 years. They have appeared at major venues in the US including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and have toured in the US, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, and Taiwan. Mutsuko, a noted marimbist and teacher in Japan, has aided and experienced the development of Japanese marimba literature since the 1950’s. She has commissioned over forty pieces from the titans of contemporary Japanese music including Akira Miyoshi, Maki Ishii, Toshi Ichiyanagi and Akira Nishimura. Her exhaustive research efforts in this area have resulted in the Fujii Database of Japanese Marimba Works now featured on the Percussive Arts Society website. Haruka is pursuing an international career as a solo percussionist. She has lived In New York City since 1998 and currently divides her time between New York and Toronto. Rika is an active freelancer in Tokyo and proudly joins her mother and sister in promoting an important and historical program of great Japanese marimba music.
