Maxime McKinley studied composition with Michel Gonneville and Isabelle Panneton in Montréal, before honing his skills in Paris with Martin Matalon. He received the Prix d’Europe de composition (2009), and 11 prizes at the Concours des jeunes compositeurs de la Fondation Socan (2003-2011). His works have been performed in Quebec, elsewhere in Canada, in the United States, Mexico and France, notably by the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, the Esprit Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, New Music Concerts, Trio Fibonacci and such soloists as Julie-Anne Derome, Jérôme Ducharme, Matthias Maute and Matan Porat. He is a member of the artistic committee of the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) and of the national council of the Ligue canadienne des compositeurs (LCC). His writings have appeared in Quebec and in France, in the review Circuit, musiques contemporaines among others, where he was the administrative director and subeditor (2010-2012). He is currently the composer in residence at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur.
