Founded in December 1988 by a group of young Montréal musicians, the Philharmonie des Vents du Québec was placed under the artistic direction of Alain Cazes. The group’s self-imposed mission is to promote the very considerable repertoire that exists for wind orchestra, as well as Québecois instrumental and compositional talent. The orchestra has given more than sixty concerts for a great variety of audiences, and has been broadcast over the radio many times. A founding member of the organization, Alain Cazes sought to reach young audiences by means of musical matinées, especially conceived for them, that would integrate interaction between the orchestra and audience as well as contemporary works. The orchestra and its director have met with critical acclaim and have left their mark on the Montréal musical scene with a resolutely new audience.
