Performer (mezzo-soprano)

Lauren Phillips grew up in Ottawa where she studied with Donna Klimowska and Yoriko Tanno. She attended the University of Western Ontario for her Bachelors as well as her Masters of Music in vocal performance, and studied with Anita Krause-Weibe. Most recent roles include Frédéric in Mignon (Thomas) in concert, the Mother/Grandmother in Barab’s Little Red Riding Hood, as well as Dorabella, and Nancy in Albert Herring. Last year she won the Vivian Asfar Memorial Award for opera as part of the Opera Lyra Ottawa young artist program, and has won several other awards, including a UWO gold medal. She has participated in several summer programs, including Banff’s Opera as Theatre Program for the past two summers. As a member of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques, she had the opportunity to sing in Vienna and France last summer, and for the 2008/2009 season she will be a member of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist program.
