  • Performer

Founded in 1987, the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal is dedicated to the creation of new Canadian music, commissioning and performing new works as well as providing composers with a forum to explore and refine their art. Since its inception, the ECM+ has premiered 140 compositions; 115 of them written by Canadian composers.

The ECM+ has toured regionally since 1994, undertaking its first national tour in 2000, and participates in cultural exchanges with such cities as Singapour (2002), Kiev (1999), Winnipeg (1997) and Barcelona (1993). The ensemble has performed at Montréal/New Music International Festival (2002), at Quebec City’s Musiques au présent Festival (2000), at Massey Hall New Music Festival in Toronto (2000), and at Festival International de musique actuelle de Victoriaville (1994).

The ECM has recorded six CDs and its concert performances are frequently broadcast on Radio-Canada’s chaîne culturelle. Through its collaboration with a number of organizations and its residency at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, the ECM+ has created unique synergies in the new music field in Canada and contributes to the exploration of new musical territories.

With two prestigious awards won in 2002-2003 (2002 Musical Event of the Year Opus Prize and the Montréal Arts Council Grand Prize), the ECM+ is more than ever ready to pursue the exploration of the new musical territories outlined by our creators.
