After several years performing and arranging pop music, he entered McGill University’s faculty of music in 1968. Various scholarships helped him to pursue studies for a Master’s degree at Princeton University (New Jersey), where Milton Babbitt was one of his teachers. Subsequently, several commissions came from both individual performers and groups, including New Music Concerts in Toronto and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec in Montréal. In 1975, he became associate professor of theory and composition at McGill University’s Faculty of Music. His works have won several awards including a Juno en 1987.
