Works by Reich.
A genuine ballet of mallets! Some of the most celebrated works from the giant of American minimalism, brought to you by the musicians of the McGill Percussion Ensemble. Led by world-renowned percussionist Aiyun Huang, we are taken on a journey to the very heart of rhythm with marimbas, glockenspiels, vibraphones, pianos, and other hard-hitting instruments. Within, women’s voices glide, almost incognito. “Fans” will discover Steve Reich in all his magnificence, with mesmerizing repetitions and puzzling use of phasing. An event representing the madness of the rhythms and the vivacity of 20th century music.
Production McGill Schulich School of Music in collaboration with MNM
Please note that the concert will be followed by a reception “tea and cookies” in the lobby, in the presence of DJ Will Bennett.
