Works by Gonneville, Morlock and Saariaho.
Pre-concert event, 6:00 pm, free admission
Winter summit: British Columbia’s Aventa brings the works of three composers in from the cold. From leading Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho comes Tempest Songbook, based on Shakespeare’s text. Alongside are Cantate de la dette perpétuelle, Michel Gonneville’s eagerly awaited premiere for “itinerant” singers and ensemble. Continuing on this promenade of surprises, we encounter a new work for ensemble, video and electronics from young composer Simon Steen-Andersen, a stellar talent from the Danish music scene. A concert of warm voices to be captured before it moves on to lessen winter’s harshness elsewhere.
