Sokolović goes back to school! Every semester at the Conservatoire, the young musicians of the Ensemble Musique Avenir along with their conductor, Véronique Lacroix, put together a concert focusing on contemporary music from both here and abroad. For this year’s Homage Series to Sokolović, the conductor chose to play Géométrie sentimentale, a work she is very fond of as she commissioned and premiered it in 1997, before recording two different versions of it on CD.

flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion, piano, and string quintet
Commission: Ensemble contemporain de Montréal (ECM+), with support from the CCA
Véronique Lacroix has directed the Ensemble Musique Avenir since 1995. Comprised of performance students from the Conservatoire, the ensemble and their conductor prepare programmes that highlight new compositions.
The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
