Pre-concert event, 7:00 pm, free admission: the piece and the role that percussion plays will be presented to discover the Brazilian rhythms buried within the masterpiece, tonight’s major work, L’Homme et son désir.
From Darius Milhaud’s wild and enchanting path through the Amazonian forest, to the spectacular and moving works by Quebec’s own Michel Longtin, with a detour to Nicole Lizée’s avant-garde and exciting music, this season the SMCQ starts off to the beat of the drums as we engage the public. Impressive on both visual and aural levels, and totally devoted to percussion and voice, the opening concert provides a soupçon of the festival MNM 2013 theme.

The SMCQ has been moving in step with the lively rhythms of new music for over forty-five years. With its regular concert season, its Série hommage (Homage Series), an international festival, and a young listener’s programme, the society has served both as a platform for today’s composers and as a window on creative works for everyone.
