To the memory of his friend, sculptor Isamo Naguchi (1904-1989)

Toru Takemitsu is best known for the more than sixty film scores he wrote, among which are The Empire of Passions, Black Rain and Rising Sun. He is famed for combining elements of oriental and occident philosophy to create a sound uniquely his own, and for fusing opposites together such as sound with silence and tradition with innovation.
