A Word from the Honourable Steven Guilbeault
Minister — Canadian Heritage
As Minister of Canadian Heritage, I salute everyone who made the 2021 Montréal/ Nouvelles Musiques Festival possible, which is taking place with the theme “Beyond Borders”. Although presented as a webcast due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event remains true to its mission: to showcase contemporary music from Quebec throughout Canada and around the world. For audiences, it is a great opportunity to hear some outstanding works.
I would like to thank the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec for bringing us this essential celebration of contemporary music. Our government is pleased to contribute to the success of this 10th edition. I wish you all an excellent festival.
A Word from Nathalie Maillé
Executive Director — Conseil des arts de Montréal
The Montreal/New Musics festival is an established landmark event on North America’s contemporary music scene and brings audiences works by composers from here and abroad. With “Beyond Borders” as its theme, this year’s 10-day live webcast from Montreal will showcase the artists’ talent online for audiences around the globe. In these unprecedented times, we can take delight in the fact that there are no holds on this 10th edition of the MNM festival from the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec.
On behalf of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, I am pleased to congratulate the SMCQ on this anniversary edition and the significant role it has played in showcasing musical creation for over 50 years.
I hope these one-of-a-kind compositions will take you on a wonderful journey, beyond borders! Enjoy the festival!
