Canadians first read about Suren Barry in the Ottawa Citizen, April 30, 2001, in an article entitled “11-year-old shines at Kiwanis Music Festival.” Consistently impressing judges and critics alike, his playing is described as “musical, with an innate sense of sonority”, and “displaying artistry, impressive maturity, depth and mastery for one so young.” In 2006, Suren was the provincial winner of the Ontario Music Festival Association competition in the open piano category, and was selected to represent Ottawa again at this competition in 2007 and in 2008. Furthermore, he was awarded first prize in the Canadian Music Competition this past summer. Suren Barry has been invited to perform before audiences in Ottawa, Montréal and Trois-Rivières. He has given concerts at the Chapelle historique du Bon Pasteur in Montréal on an annual basis since 2006. Suren is currently studying with John Perry at the Glenn Gould School.
