Nicolas Boucher joined [iks] in 1998. Pianist, he is also credited with one of the band’s more significant aesthetic turns by introducing a sampler as an electro-acoustic instrument. Nicolas began studying piano at the age of 12 and pursued his classical training at the Cégep de St-Laurent, where he was introduced to jazz and composition. While studying composition at the University of Montréal under Marcelle Deschênes, he founded an electroacoustic improvisation ensemble, Les Impromptistes.
