Performer (mezzo-soprano)

Hailed by critics as a “talented and artistically mature” performer with a “voice of satin purity” that is “strong, supple and…utterly beautiful”, mezzo Wallis Giunta has caught the attention of audiences and critics across Canada. Most recently, Wallis created the title role in the exciting world-premiere of Pandora’s Locker by Canadian composer, Dean Burry. At 23, she has sung roles including Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Hermia in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Upcoming engagements include Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte (2009), Messiah for The Regina Symphony Orchestra (2009), Cretan Woman in Mozart’s Idomeneo (Canadian Opera Company, 2010), and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera Atelier, 2010). The Ottawa native is the winner of The Royal Conservatory Orchestra Concerto Competition, and will perform Ravel’s Shéhérézade in their 2009/2010 season with Maestro Peter Oundjian. As the recipient of the Lilly Kertes Rolin International Vocal Prize, Wallis is completing an Artist Diploma at The Glenn Gould School, and will join the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio in September, 2009.
