Conductor Alexis Hauser was born in Vienna, Austria and graduated with distinction from the class of Hans Swarowsky in 1970 (Vienna Musikuniversität). He also studied with Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Chigiana Siena in 1969 and with Herbert von Karajan at the Salzburg Sommerakademie in 1970. Hauser was the winner of the prestigious Koussevitzky Conducting Prize of the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as the recipient of Tanglewood’s Leonard Bernstein Scholarship in 1974. Since 2001 he has served as Artistic Director of the McGill Symphony Orchestra. Hauser’s international guest conducting schedule has included performances at the Vienna Symphony, Rotterdam Philharmonic, the symphony orchestras of Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Minnesota, Rochester, Toronto, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, RSO Vienna, as well as tours in Italy, Scandinavia and Iceland. Hauser’s special interest in working with young musicians and conductors has led to guest professorships and masterclasses at Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music in New York; the Civic Orchestra of Chicago; the Music University Graz, Austria; the Kunitachi Music University in Tokyo, Japan; and the Glenn Gould School of Music in Toronto. Since the summer of 2013 he has worked with Les Orpheistes Festival Orchestra in Vienna. Maestro Hauser’s work can be seen and heard on numerous CD’s and DVD’s as well as on television and radio.
