Stockholm (Sweden), 1965
Composer • Performer (piano)
From 1984 to 1993 Fredric Hedelin studied composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Sven-David Sandström and Pär Lindgren, among others. From 1996 to 1997 he pursued further studies at Ircam with Tristan Murail, Brian Ferneyhough and Magnus Lindberg. Hedelin himself emphasizes the significant influence that Pär Lindgren and Ferneyhough have had on his development as a composer. Fredrik Hedelin works with both instrumental music and electro-acoustic music and has often used algorithmic methods in his compositions. The music has been described as rhythmic, powerfully gestural and energetic, and even virtuosic at times.
