Luc Marcel was born in Charlemagne, Quebec. His works have been played by various ensembles, in Canada and the United States as well as in Europe. In February 1999, Pastel was premiered by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Asile by Die Reihe in Vienna. Modèle 312 was premiered in November 1999 at the American Festival of Microtonal Music in New York.

Marcel has received numerous commissions, the most recent of which came from the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, the Toronto ensemble Continuum, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

He has also written dance music, including choreographer Paul-André Fortier’s, Entre la mémoire et l’oubli, premiered in Montréal in 1995 by Montréal Danse and the SMCQ, and Toronto choreographer Bill James’s Wind, recorded in New York by the Chronos Saxophone Quartet.

His works have also been played by Arraymusic (Toronto), the St-X Ensemble Xenakis, the Ensemble Solange and the Johnny Reinard & Ensemble (New York).
