Born in 1967, Sylvain Marotte began practicing printmaking in his studio at an early age. He was the first graduate at the School of Digital Arts, Animation and Design at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (NAD 1992). Marotte went on to direct the BigBang Fx studios for 5 years. He teaches and writes up the MEQ college animation program. His studies in anthropology and his interest in living art led him to directing. He has directed several television series, including Les Fous de la rue (2004), a rare documentary on street theatre in France and Spain. Since 2011, he has been writing and directing immersive installations, including three tours of the Cosmodôme in Laval (2012), the Palava installation in Mumbai (2013), the Pehonan theatre in Edmonton (2014) and a 360° film with Diane Dufresne for the COP21 in Paris (2015). He received a Hexagram grant (2015) for his project Beckett’s Last Tape. Sylvain Marotte is a doctoral student in film studies and is pursuing his research on the spatialization of filmic narrative.
