Ivana Quehl (b. 1989) is a Serbian-Canadian composer, pianist and teacher. She composes music for solo musicians, chamber ensembles and theatre. She holds an M.Mus. in Composition from the University of Victoria and a B.Mus. in Composition from Wilfrid Laurier University. She studied composition with Linda Catlin Smith, Glenn Buhr, Christopher Butterfield and Dániel Péter Biró. In August 2013, she was the pianist for the world premiere of a brand new musical, “Broadway Musical: The Broadway Musical” by Ann Hascalovitz, a Wilfrid Laurier alumna. She participated as a composer in summer festivals including the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival, Orford Centre D’Arts Creation workshop, Arraymusic Young Composers workshop and the Salt Festival. She composed music for performers and ensembles in her city including the Ekleipsis Guitar Trio, KW Guitar Orchestra, Michael Borkovic, Penderecki String Quartet and members of the On the Spot Collective. She is also a co-founder and co-organizer of the On the Spot Collective: a collective of composers, performers and improvisers that live in the Kitchener Waterloo area in Ontario. Ivana is also co-founder and co-artistic director of the Waterloo Region Contemporary Music Sessions, a weeklong contemporary music festival that was held in Waterloo, Ontario in 2017 and 2018.
