Composer and percussionist Pascal Zavaro was born in Paris in 1959. Before devoting himself uniquely to composition at the end of the 1980s, he had been a marimba virtuoso, improviser and transcriber, performing many solo works and concertos worldwide, Some of his scores combine both electronic and traditional instruments, such as the series Metal music, Silicon music, Nylon music, and Gasoline music, which bring together various melodic fragments from the “pop” genre. These selected fragments, however small or trivial, are “recycled” by being diverted from their original position and placed in a new one. His works Fezzan, Déjeuner sur l’herbe, and Alia display African and Asian influences. Current projects include an opera for the Théâtre du Châtelet. In 2000 he was awarded the Pierre Cardin Prize for Composition from the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
