Works by Garant, Mathieu, Papineau-Couture, Sokolović and Vivier.
At the Cinémathèque québécoise:
- 5pm — Film screening Musiques pour un siècle sourd, Richard Jutras
- 6pm — Talks with Richard Jutras & Ana Sokolović
The Montreal portion of the tribute series to Ana Sokolović will start off with a bang. The public at large will be convened for a free, three-fold event that will bring the big screen to the concert hall, meeting the composer to be honoured along the way. As part of its Journées de la culture, three main Québécois institutions will join together to create the perfect event in which to penetrate the fascinating universe of contemporary music in general, and Ana Sokolović’s in particular.
Following a screening of the multi-award winning Musiques pour un siècle sourd (Richard Jutras), which unmasks “avant-garde” music, audience members will be able to sit in on a discussion of musical creativity with Ana Sokolović and Richard Jutras himself. The evening will end with a full-length concert performed by the Ensemble de la SMCQ and conducted by Walter Boudreau, with a “made to measure” programme: Jeu des portraits by Ana Sokolović, performed alongside the four Quebec music giants she pays tribute to in the four movements of her work.
