Works by Evangelista, Lesage and Macklay.
“… Monodías españolas struck me by its excellent use of the piano.” — Ligeti
Drawn from Spanish folklore as per the works by Albéniz, Granados and Falla, Evangelista explores the popular melodies of his childhood while preserving their monodic forms. The impeccable mastery of the ornamentation and the heterophonic effect creates a surprising polyphonic illusion also glorified in Clos de Vie (Claude vit), a disturbing, fragile work dedicated to the memory of Claude Vivier, Macklay’s Microvariations and Lesage’s Le concert des anachronismes délibérés complete the program.
At 6:15 pm, the public is invited to a round-table discussion featuring composers Denis Gougeon, John Rea, Ana Sokolović and José Evangelista. [Peggy Niloff, translation and adaptation]
