The extraordinary accordion from one of its most talented representatives
Recognized on the world stage as both a composer and an accordionist, Snežana Nešić extends the theme of spirituality to new horizons! Two creations by Quebec composers Jean Lesage and Jimmie LeBlanc respectively evoke carnival rituals of the Middle Ages and a spiritual and religious post-humanity. Sofia Gubaidulina’s De Profundis bewitches us with a biblical psalm, as does Snežana Nešić’s Equilibrion, which oscillates between light and darkness. Finally two transcriptions of organ pieces (Messiaen and Bach) invite us to appreciate the immense versatility of this enchanting instrument.
Equilibrion for solo accordion won first prize in the Weimar Spring Days International Composition Competition in May 2021.
As accordionist Snežana Nešić “convey a complete identification with the different styles and emotional worlds of the individual composers” (S&H Concert Review), “inventing a completely new sound world on this modern instrument” (EJZ).
