A season of fruitful encounters

For its 46th season, the SMCQ Montreal Series is opting for seductive encounters while honoring artistic creation in all forms. In each concert, at the forefront is composer Ana Sokolović, a great lover of the arts and this year’s Tribute Series honoree.

The SMCQ will be participating at the “Journées de la culture” with a screening of Musiques pour un siècle sourd (Richard Jutras), followed by a free concert featuring the SMCQ Ensemble. It is dedicated to the biggest names in Quebec music who were Ana’s inspiration for her work Jeux des portraits.

Another emotionally-enriching encounter: the public’s meeting with the Aventa Ensemble, flying in from British Columbia, whose music makes delightful illusions to Kafka’s time.

Also at the crossroads of arts, the Chute Libres concert will bring the curtain down on Ana’s distinctively theatrical music, along with that of other Quebec composers, while a new Marc Bovin choreography will be broadcast on the big screen during Darius Milhaud’s Création du Monde.

As for the Molinari Quartet, it will also honor the arts in general, via the visual world of Blanc dominant (Ana Sokolović, 1998) or through other interpretations.

Finally, the SMCQ celebrates the long career of Louise Bessette the “grande dame of contemporary music”, in a three-part concert where great works of the repertoire will be presented by many talented performers.

The year ends on a particularly eclectic note: a major concert featuring Angèle Dubeau and La Pietà, Walter Boudreau and the SMCQ orchestra focusing on notable American and Quebec composers. From Adams to Zappa to Vivier and Sokolović, this concert promises to be a blast!

More than ever, this bold program, gathering together composers as well as artists from other disciplines, establishes the SMCQ’s place at the heart of Montreal’s artistic scene.
