During the 2023-24 season, composer Sandeep Bhagwati will be the featured in the 8th edition of the Homage Series.
Musicians and artists from all backgrounds are invited to participate by performing one or more of his musical pieces in their concerts, by programming a complete concert of his repertoire or by presenting an event or activity related to his work.
What is the Homage Series?
Every two years since 2007, the SMCQ honors a local composer by asking the cultural and educational milieus to feature him or her in their season. As part of the series, the SMCQ programs several concerts, events and educational activities with a selection of its works. An extensive promotional campaign is organized to publicize the composer and the concerts and events in the series.
Each edition, more than 200 concerts and activities reach approximately 50,000 people, all ages.
Who is Sandeep Bhagwati?
Internationally renowned, Sandeep Bhagwati is a composer, poet, multimedia artist, festival director, publicist and researcher. His multi-media concert installations, his music theatre works, his operas, his orchestra and ensemble compositions, his chamber music and comprovisation are performed worldwide at prestigious festivals and venues by leading orchestras and music ensembles.
Reflecting his mixed identity, Sandeep Bhagwati’s music is inspired by the European tradition, to which is attached a constellation of the most diverse styles is anchored, from oriental, and African music to blues via free jazz and electronic music. A vibrant music that crosses borders but also the arts like his installations and other multimedia works.
His work focuses on comprovisation, trans-traditional perspectives, interdisciplinary aesthetics, media arts, gestural & sonic theatre and situative, visual and non-visual interactive scores, experimental performances, and the role of music in decolonialism and climate change issues.
His repertoire is rich and very diversified.
How to participate?
Whether you are a soloist, an ensemble or an orchestra, you can participate by filling out the form where we will collect the necessary information to promote your project and have it included in our promotion. We will then give you access to our visibility material.
If desired, our team is available to guide you in the selection of a work from Sandeep Bhagwati’s repertoire. We can also give you a letter of recommendation for financial support.
