Quatre miroirs-loukoum is a cycle of four pieces, the poems of which are taken from one of my collections, justly called Miroirs-loukoum. This poetry blends dada, surrealistic images, language distortions, everyday life, graphic play and courtly love. These poems were “extended into music”, as much on the basis of form, phonetic structures and prosody as on the basis of emotions. The contribution of electronics, in the first two “miroirs-loukoum”, acts as an accompaniment: it is a kind of electronic continuation. In the third “miroir-loukoum”, the broadcast allows for, thanks to the sound pick-up, a virtual quartet in interaction with instrumentalists on stage. The fourth “miroirs-likoum” is purely acoustical. Le salon is a brief electro-acoustical piece that I created in the studios of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and that serves as a prelude to the Miroirs-loukoum. The work was composed in 2003 for the Duo Prémices (Émilie Laforest and Ziya Tabassian). The electronic component was created with Joël-Aimé Beauchamp.
