violin, cello and piano

Premiere: April 8, 2010, Trio FibonacciConcert, Chapelle Saint-Louis — Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Montréal (Québec)

The title and the concetto for this piece come from a collection of paintings by the Canadian artist Paterson Ewwan. With strokes of bold colour on pieces of routered plywood, Ewan captured his own engagement with a number of elemental events. Only the third movement is a direct response to one of his paintings; the others respond to other places and events in a sympathetic manner. The timbre, contour, and layers of rhythms of a place/event provided the musical material, which tends to be spare and contemplative.
