hyper-flute and interactive video system
Premiere: October 21, 2011, Cléo Palacio-Quintin, hyper-flute • Synesthesiae, Music Multimedia Room — Pavillon de musique Elizabeth Wirth — Université McGill, Montréal (Québec)
Inspired by an unpublished poem by Jessica Vigneault.
This piece is the fourth in a series inspired by the phenomenon of synesthesia, in particular the relation between colours and sounds. Jessica Vigneault wrote for me acrostic poems on each primary and secondary colour. These poems served as a base to compose my pieces wherein I try to make people “hear” the colours. After La vie en rouge (red), Le sourire de l’étoile bleue (orange and blue) and La lumière du monde (yellow and purple), I had to finish the cycle with a “green piece”. This work includes video and photo projections of greenery presented in an interactive montage (thanks to Pascal Lysaught for providing some beautiful photos). All the digital signal processing (audio and visual) is directly controlled by the hyper-flute.
Green, you dress the blue planet Emeralds, limes and ferns… Regenerate, give your fire, make air! * As long as light travels, that it still rains yellow…
* Fais de l’air!: french expression meaning get out!
