Sometimes one sound can render another one inaudible. It is this transformation of the audible to the inaudible which intrigued me during the composition of this work, which poetically investigates instrumental masking techniques. Numerous sound situations came to my ears: sometimes simultaneous ones, often attacks followed by echos, or the effect of slight time intervals. Through this delectable disorder, this improvised, even formless character evolved into a dance, a masked ball, better still, a rhapsody, a rhapsody of masks.
