clarinet, violin, cello and piano
The Saturnalia were originally Roman festivals held during the period culminating in the winter solstice. The god Saturn was celebrated with great festivities, during which the hierarchical order of men and logic was temporarily reversed in a parodic manner.
Over time, the word has taken on various meanings: unbridled festivals where all excesses are permitted; a time of excess, debauchery, licence and disorder. The saturnalia of anarchy.
In this work I have retained the festive, unbridled and unpredictable aspect that the word implies. A speech that reveals a marked taste for artifice and theatrical emphasis. The work is presented in a formal conception that establishes a non-teleological temporal dynamic, where the sole pleasure of wandering seems to be preserved. A praise of flight in music?
